About Me

Pianist-Composer Adam Kormondy, since 2021 in his weekly residency at restaurant Primo Italia, performs over 200 different pieces filtered through his eclectic and expansive pianistic style. With a repertoire ranging from Thelonious Monk, Wayne Shorter, and Bill Evans to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and The Beatles to Prince, David Bowie, and Lady Gaga, Mr. Kormondy’s innovative and whimsical programming brings together the popular and the experimental. He has performed all around Southern California, at venues such as The Mint, Roxanne’s Bar, DBA256, and the Catalina Jazz Club.
Mr. Kormondy initiated the creation of the collective Albion Kristof, releasing its first album of all original music, Eclipse, in 2021 as his graduating senior recital from UC Irvine. The amorphous cooperative has appeared in configurations ranging from duo to septet, and is currently working on their next albums. Kormondy also performs with The Sound Scientists, a Pop-Jazz Fusion band based in Irvine formed from UCI alumni.
Adam holds a Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Studies and a Bachelor’s in Philosophy of Law from the University of California at Irvine. At UCI, he studied with Kei Akagi, Darek Oleszkiewicz, Michael Dessen, Lukas Ligeti, and Chris Dobrian. In 2021, he received the Cloud Hsueh Foundation Scholarship from the Claire Trevor School of the Arts.
Outside of performance, Mr. Kormondy is a committed educator for music students of all ages. He has worked with over a hundred students from the ages of four to eighty-four, whether that’s starting children/adults on their musical journey, developing high school jazz curriculum, preparing intermediate students for college auditions, or helping adult students rediscover their old passions. His teaching philosophy sets out to not only create competent instrumentalists, but creative musicians and people utilizing active listening, history, and composition.
